Many countries have developed national qualifications frameworks. For example, in the UK vocational system qualifications (Qualification and Credit Framework) are composed from learning units.

Each unit is written in a specific way. The format includes:

In the case of Spain, every qualification consists of competence units linked each one of them to a learning module which describes the necessary learning to acquire that competence unit. The learning modules have a standardized structure:
