Support structure for wbl
Prepare support structure/resources for work-based learning
Workplaces generally have not been established for the purpose of learning. It will therefore in most cases be necessary to make some changes or add some supportive features to the regular
station. The following indications can be of interest either for in-company staff who are responsible for trainees or college teachers who wish to suggest them to their contact person in the
company.
- Develop challenging assignments for the trainees without overtaxing them
- Create opportunities for them to change jobs and departments
- Use diverse learning methods and materials
- Create a tutorial structure in addition to the regular supervision: ask team members to share their experiences
- Empower trainees to take part in planning their training
- Have advanced trainees look after the younger ones
- If innovative technologies or changes in the work organisation are implemented, let trainees take part in the process
- Coordinate learning topics with all relevant parties
- In addition, briefing and de-briefing sessions are also an important aspect of thelearning process and allow learners to reflect on their learning experience and verify new knowledge.
